Would this be too controversial a book for young adults/teenagers?

I thought of this idea, developed it a little, but i wonder if anyone would actually read it. its not another soppy love story, not a typical romance anyway, since the romance is between two girls. here’s the plot.

Part 1) She is six years old, taken off the streets by the assassin’s guild. They never explain to her why they take her in. She remembers nothing of her past, but quickly settles into training.
Part 2) She is now sixteen years old and a senior neophyte. She is one of the strongest neophytes, but there is strong competition to be the best, the Guildmaster’s favorite. Ana has one friend, Gemaemae, who has a ‘dubious’ past. They have a friendship of convenience, and rely on each other for assignments, an “I’ll watch your back if you watch mine” alliance. One night, Mae saves Ana from a trap set by another guild to catch an assassin, so Ana becomes indebted to Mae.
Part 3) Mae disappears. Ana tries to track her down, despite numerous warnings not to from the guild. She finds Mae at the ruins of her old house, standing on a high building next to it. Mae reveals that the only reason she’d been sticking with Ana was in the hope one of Ana’s reckless missions would get them both killed, and that she believes she should have died with her parents all those years ago. Ana pulls Mae back from the edge and tells her that she’s the only reason she’s been living for months, and they kiss. They return to the guild, but the Guildmaster had spies watching them so he knows of their love. He sends Ana on a suicide mission to infiltrate the Guild of Thieves headquarters, and Mae works out what he’s trying to do and follows Ana, where she jumps in front of her right before another assassin jumps out and stabs Mae in the side. Ana fights off and kills the assassin, but it is too late to save Mae, who tells Ana she loves her and Ana tells Mae to wait for her in the afterlife, wherever it may be.
